Hanging Rock Winery

John and Ann Ellis established the Hanging Rock Winery in 1983, on the slopes of a small mountain known as the ‘Jim Jim’, 3 kilometres from the internationally known Hanging Rock, in the very cool Macedon Ranges region of Victoria. It was established with the aim of making Australia’s finest sparkling wine, in the style of famous French marques like Bollinger and Krug.

The Hanging Rock philosophy is to utilise our winemaking techniques to produce wines of consistent quality - wines and styles that reflect the time and effort spent on creating them and that demonstate the acknowledged blending skills of winemaker John Ellis.

In addition to vineyards on 'The Jim Jim’ at Hanging Rock and 'Athol's Paddock' vineyard in the Heathcote Region, the Hanging Rock Winery is dedicated to sourcing a selection of premium grapes from areas of Victoria, best suited to each particular variety. Winemaker John Ellis draws on his extensive experience to apply specialised techniques to enhance the characteristics of the wines.

This strategy enables Hanging Rock Winery to produce a diverse and comprehensive range of wines to meet the demands of the market and has allowed our brand to grow and prosper, with steadily increasing sales in Victoria’s on-premise and retail markets, at Cellar Door and in interstate and export markets.

Our long term objectives are to achieve slow, steady growth, consolidating as a small to medium sized, premium quality producer, with a diverse portfolio serving both domestic and overseas markets.
